About the Festival

It’s back! Richmond’s annual festival of creativity for kids is bigger than ever for Family Day on Monday, February 13th and there are four great ways to participate!

  1. GENERAL FESTIVAL ADMISSION: Experience all of the Children’s Arts Festival’s Imagination Stations and Performances in the following zones: Imagination Playground, Once Upon a Time, Sonic Garden and Art Alley.
  2. CREATIVITY CLASSES: Register your child early for an artist-led creativity class where they’ll learn and create alongside one of our professional artist instructors.
  3. SPECIAL EVENT: GLOWING HEARTS:  CircusWest presents their newest show, designed especially for this year’s festival. The show is a heartfelt circus exploration of the true north and a showcase of young circus artists celebrating Canada.
  4.  SPECIAL OFFER: The first 200 General Festival Admissions purchased in advance at Lansdowne Centre will be guaranteed to make one of our commemorative Canada 150 t-shirts.

Please see Programs and Tickets for more information.

The City of Richmond and our generous sponsors, including presenting sponsor, Lansdowne Centre are pleased to announce that the 9th Annual Children’s Arts Festival will take place at the Richmond Cultural Centre from February 13th to 17th, 2017. Located in the heart of City centre, the Richmond Cultural Centre will transform into a vibrant, colourful atmosphere with interactive workshops, activities and events tailored for children ages 3 to 12.

While February 14th – 17th is designated for local schools, the public is invited to join in on the fun on B.C.’s Family Day Holiday, February 13th, 2017 as we also celebrate Canada’ s150th birthday!  Building on 8 years of growth and success, children and their families are encouraged to spark their imagination through music, visual, literary and performing arts lead by professional artists.

Message from Artistic Director

Oh Canada, if I may borrow some words and sentiment from Robert Munsch: “I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always, as long as I am living, my Canada you’ll be.” These words merely scratch the surface in describing the immense pride we have as we invite you to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday at this year’s Children’s Arts Festival.

Join us for the biggest little birthday party in town! Dance up a storm in the Sonic Garden, run away and join the Circus at the Imagination Playground, get ready to celebrate all things Canadian as you enter Once Upon a Time and let your Canadian comedic talent break free in Art Alley.

None of these celebratory experiences would be possible without the hundreds of champions we are so fortunate to have supporting us. A special thank you to all our generous sponsors, including presenting sponsor, Lansdowne Centre. To our volunteers who spend countless hours preparing for this week—thank you for your dedication and support: you are the reason we can put smiles on our guests’ faces and memories in their hearts.

Happy Birthday Canada! On behalf of the Children’s Arts Festival team, it is a great privilege to welcome you to this year’s Children’s Arts Festival. Let the party begin!
